Wind

According to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), wind energy is the fastest-growing energy technology in the world. Small wind turbines can be used to produce electricity for a single building or residence, while large-scale installations can be used for widespread power distribution.

For utility-scale sources of wind energy, large clusters of wind turbines are erected together in areas with steady, favorable wind streams in order to form wind farms. Wind farm developers either lease land or use their own, and then sell the power to utilities and, in some cases, to companies or the government.
